JOB SUMMARY:

This Intern will support Engineering groups in the development of both Ride and Show Systems for themed entertainment projects. This includes participating in the design review and evaluation process to ensure alignment with Universal and industry standards, assisting in the review and revision of internal and external technical standards, and contributing to the development of new system strategies. Show Systems may include Animated Figures, Show Action Equipment, Animated Props, Special Effects, Showsets, Rockwork, Play Areas, Stage Shows, and Parades. Interns will also assist in drafting and evaluating technical Requests for Proposals (RFPs), coordinating with vendors, organizing technical documentation, and developing presentations for technical reviews and planning. Through hands-on experience and active participation in coordination meetings, interns will gain a strong understanding of the full lifecycle of Ride and Show Systems development—from concept to execution—along with valuable insight into vendor management, cross-functional collaboration, and the broader theme park design process.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the development and review of engineering documentation for Ride and Show Systems.
  • Support the preparation of technical criteria and specifications to guide design and integration.
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot issues and recommend design improvements.
  • Participate in evaluating the feasibility and application of new technologies.
  • Develop and revise internal standards, specifications, and contractual documentation.
  • Prepare presentations and technical materials using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Write and evaluate technical Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and vendor design submissions.
  • Support Show Systems Engineering & Safety leadership in reviewing designs for compliance with industry and Universal standards.
  • Attend team meetings, track action items, and contribute to the day-to-day project development process.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required. 
  • A transcript is required upon application.

PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Preferred majors include: Mechanical Engineering, Controls/Electrical Engineering, Project Management
  • Preferred coursework completed: Statics, Dynamics, or similar. 3 years of relevant course work that supports themed entertainment technologies preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD. 
  • Engineering/technical focus desired.
  • Technical communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong Problem Solving Skills.
  • Previous work with a prior company in Themed Entertainment Industry.
  • Experienced in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • SolidWorks, BIM360, Navisworks, Microsoft Project, Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD experience (Preferred).

Please note the following:

  • This internship will be an in-person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than April 2026.
  • Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
  • All of our internships are paid, and you may also qualify for housing financial assistance if applicable. The Recruiter will provide specific eligibility details.
