The Department of Computer Science supports more than 1,500 students across four undergraduate and four graduate programs, including a stackable, credential-based BA in Computer Systems Technology, an MS in Computer Science, MS in Cybersecurity, MS in Data Science and a Ph.D. in Data Science. Additional curricular offerings are being developed for in-person, hybrid, and online delivery. Under the general supervision of the Department Head, this position provides advanced administrative, operational, and programmatic oversight to address the growing complexity and strategic priorities of the department.

This role functions with a high level of independence and leadership responsibility, coordinating academic operations, managing faculty and student personnel processes, supporting facilities and technology infrastructure, and liaising with both internal and external partners.

 

Specific tasks include but are not limited to the following:

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Independently coordinate and manage the Department of Computer Science’s course schedule, serving as an equal scheduling partner within the Department. This includes developing and maintaining complex schedules across multiple programs, instructional formats, and campus locations.
  • Lead and organize department-wide faculty town halls (for both full-time and adjunct instructors) prior to the start of the fall and spring semesters to ensure clear communication and alignment with departmental expectations. Develop and maintain supporting reference materials for instructional faculty.
  • Oversee onboarding, contract management, and ongoing support for approximately 90 adjunct faculty each semester.
  • Play a central role in faculty hiring processes, including searches for tenure-track and teaching professors. Independently manage all logistics from applicant tracking to interview coordination (remote and in-person), and oversee the full execution of on-campus interview visits.
  • Coordinate onboarding and HR processes for full-time and part-time faculty. Serve as a subject matter expert in the hiring process for international employees.
  • Manage and grow the Department’s external advisory board and alumni engagement efforts, including strategic communication through the Department’s LinkedIn page.

Student-Facing Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Computer Science Department student clubs on event planning, space utilization, procurement, budget management, etc.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the CS student web team, including maintenance and update of the websites and the software tools developed for department and college usage.
  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, and coordination of approximately 90 student workers and 35 Learning Assistants and tutors each semester.
  • Coordinate onboarding, hiring, and HR processes for graduate student fellows. Serve as a subject matter expert in processing international student’s paperwork.
  • Co-manage and supervise the student worker team in the Tech Lounge and MakerSpace.

Program and Facility Oversight:

  • Coordinate the development and day-to-day operations of both new and existing curricular programs, including the Ph.D. in Data Science and the BA in Computer Systems Technology. Serve as the primary point of contact for managing all Ph.D. in Data Science student contracts across departments.
  • Lead management of departmental facilities, including faculty offices, Graduate Students Research Wing, Tech Lounge, MakerSpace, and Extended Reality (AR/VR) Lab, with responsibility for access systems, equipment and furniture purchasing and inventory, and security protocols.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend technology solutions to support and enhance departmental operations, instruction, and research activities.

Financial and Institutional Coordination:

  • Assist with managing department budgets and related fiscal activities, including analysis and reporting on operational, grant, and revenue budgets; purchasing; and reconciliation of non-PO/PO and credit card expenses.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on enrollment, faculty activity, student success, and research productivity.
  • Work directly with Dean’s Office, Rowan Global, Provost’s Office, Human Resources, Budget, Procurement, Advancement, and other university units to ensure timely and effective execution of department goals.
  • Other duties as assigned. The position may require work outside of normal business hours.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree preferred

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Three (3) years of professional experience in higher education or a field directly related to the functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex academic operations, preferably in a STEM or technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of academic scheduling, faculty hiring processes, student employment, and institutional budgeting.
  • Proficiency with enterprise systems such as Banner, Cognos, Tableau, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changes and learn new processes and technologies.

Salary:

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 21 ($63,833.24 to $73,416.00), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. 

For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
