Responsible for engaging directly with high achieving students and providing guidance on all aspects of their applications for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships. The Assistant Director manages the Lehigh University United Nations Youth Representative Program and leads experiential learning trips to the United Nations headquarters for faculty, staff and students. The Lehigh community takes seriously our commitment to antiracism and The Principles of our Equitable Community.

1. Recruit and advise students applying for nationally competitive scholarships
*Assist in the recruitment, advising and nomination of students and Alumni for prestigious national awards (including the Churchill, Fulbright, Marshall, Rhodes, Schwarzman, among others)
*Support students as they articulate their interests and ambitions and apply for fellowship opportunities that further their academic, personal and professional goals
*Inform and guide the deliberations of Faculty Fellowship Nomination Committees
*Build and maintain excellent cross-campus relationships with both faculty and staff
*Assist in the development of a program that is broadly accessible to the entire student population that prioritizes personal growth of the student as integral to a successful fellowship program
*Remain knowledgeable of and abiding by the best practices of the profession

2. Manage the Lehigh University United Nations (LU/UN) Youth Representative Program and serve as United Nations Experiential Learning Program Facilitator
*Manage all aspects of the LU/UN Youth Representative Program, including recruitment and retention, liaise with Non-Governmental Organization Presidents and Directors, monitor student progress, develop leadership and diplomacy training programs to support those in the program and oversee program budget
*Assist in the development of campus-based UN related events and activities
*Lead frequent faculty, staff and student experiential learning trips to the UN in New York City
*Work with faculty to coordinate UN focused curricular integration opportunities
*Assist in the development of marketing materials, website text and presentations in support of the LU/UN Partnership

The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by their supervisor

This position is funded by soft dollars; there is no severance associated with this position

This position has fiscal or financial responsibilities other than employee expense activity, such as processing or approving transactions; monitoring or preparing budgets; or generating income for University


Masters Degree required; Doctorate Degree preferred 

Three to five years relevant experience in fellowship advising, career services, higher education, student advising or community engagement 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, time management and sound judgment 

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships 

Demonstrated ability to organize and lead projects on time and on budget

Supervisory experience preferred

Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
