Responsible for management of lab, management and maintenance of the animals and facility in the cavefish aquatics facility and molecular genetics work. The Lehigh community takes seriously our commitment to antiracism and The Principles of our Equitable Community.

1. Oversight and management of aquatics facility
*Direction of facility policies and compliance policies related to the animal facility
*Management of the facility equipment, animal records and oversight of facility users
*Maintenance of the animal colony and facility equipment
*Supervision of the animal care workers
*Primary contact for uses of the facility
*Breeding and fish husbandry

2. Laboratory management and administration
*Management and maintenance of lab equipment
*Maintain purchasing records
*Maintain stocks of lab supplies

3. Design and carry out molecular biology research projects
*Perform and analyze molecular experiments
*Establish and maintain lines of fish using functional genetic techniques

4. Manage and oversee lab safety and IACUC protocols
*Develop, track and enforce lab safety measures
*Ensure that all lab personnel are up-to-date with training
*Update IACUC protocols

5. Participate in writing manuscripts
*Provide data necessary for manuscript development
*Provide input to manuscript development

Special Considerations

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community.

Some weekend and evening work required

This position has contact with minors

This position is funded on soft dollars

Will sometimes be required to see, hear, pull, push and lift up to 25 pounds


Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Genetics or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's degree in Biology, Genetics or other relevant field preferred

One to three years related work experience

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships

Excellent time management skills and sound judgment

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion

Solid writing ability, attention to detail and organizational skills

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Solid analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently

Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database software

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
