Responsible for the management of the faculty research lab, including animal husbandry and research assistance. The Lehigh community takes seriously our commitment to antiracism and The Principles of our Equitable Community.

1. Lab Management (30% effort)
*Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies
*Order supplies, animals and equipment
*Track and schedule equipment maintenance and repairs
*Supervise undergraduate students, supporting any lab functions
*Monitor compliance with lab safety, IACUC, DEA and other regulations
*Develop, track and enforce lab safety measures
*Ensure that all lab personnel are up-to-date with training
*Update IACUC protocols

2. Manage mouse colony (30% effort)
*Compliance and reporting
*Schedule and attend annual inspection
*Maintain records of animal use and procedures
*Track animal census
*Coordinate training of personnel
*Perform basic animal husbandry, including animal census, cage changing and genotyping
*Track breeding of transgenic strains
*Communication with animal facility manager regarding animal health and compliance
*Keep up-to-date with IACUC rules and regulations, including specific approved IACUC protocols
*Monitor of post-surgical animals

3. Research Assistance (40% effort)
*Perform behavioral and/or immunohistochemical experiments
*Prepare solutions, maintain stocks of reagents
*Train of undergraduate and graduate students

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community

Flexible hours as needed for research

Will often be required to talk, see, hear, sit, stand, use hands to touch, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, pull or push and lift up to 25 pounds


Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience

One to three years related work experience

Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships

Solid writing ability, attention to detail and organizational skills

Excellent time management and sound judgment

Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
