Federal Work Study- Library Syracuse
The Library Student assistant will uphold the library’s standard of service by thoroughly answering patron questions via a variety of platforms including phone, in-person and chat and utilize multiple software platforms to loan study room keys and library materials to patrons. Student assistant will help with special projects and events, engaging with library staff and patrons in the building. Student assistant will assist with opening and closing the library and other daily and weekly tasks as assigned.
Federal Work Study- Lifeguard Syracuse
The lifeguard is responsible for supervising and monitoring activity in the pool, pool area and sauna. The lifeguard must possess as minimum qualifications: current advanced lifesaving and basic life support cardiopulmonary resuscitation (9 hr. CBR), certificates from the American Red Cross or equivalent certifying agency on the basis of standards set by the Commissioner of Health. CPR must be renewed annually and advanced lifesaving renewed every two years. Hours available include days, evenings, and weekend shifts.

Federal Work Study- Elective Curriculum Developer Syracuse
Primary responsibility is to plan an MSI/MSII elective curriculum "Street Medicine in Syracuse". This includes, but is not limited to: - researching in the field to determine the most important learning objectives - creating lesson plans to be held weekly - creating assignments/volunteer hours which will be graded P/F - discussing with curriculum administrators to incorporate the curriculum Work hours will include meeting with faculty and researching to create lesson plans, working with Housecalls for the Homeless-Upstate to create a volunteer schedule that will be part of the program, and writing the lessons/syllabus/assignments. These work hours will be inconsistent and evaluated as a per hour basis. Expectations are that work will reach an average of 10-15 hours per week to be completed remotely. Student will meet with supervisor on a monthly basis to review progress.
Federal Work Study- Student Affairs Media Designer Syracuse
The admissions and financial aid office is looking to hire a few students for Federal Work-study to aid in creative multi-media management. Interested students should have experience across various social media platforms such as YouTube/Instagram/TikTok as well as basic video content creation and video editing experience. Students will be tasked to create, edit, publish, and promote SUNY Upstate in regard to recruitment for our academic programs by highlighting student experiences and accomplishments across all four colleges. Federal Work Study- Pathology Research Assistant Syracuse
Dr. Jamaspishvili is looking for students who will immediately be available to work on an ongoing immunooncology research project in her lab. Dr Jamaspishvili is conducting translational and clinical cancer research projects in collaboration with other clinical departments (hematology-oncology, urology, radiology) and disciplines (computer science, bioinformatics, epidemiology). The project title is: “Studying the prognostic and predictive role of PD-L1 expression on digital pathology images using artificial intelligence in a pan-cancer retrospective patient cohort undergoing immunotherapy”. The project is extensive and requires assembling a retrospective research cohort of SUNY Upstate patients (n=900) diagnosed with advanced/metastatic lung and other cancers and who were candidates for immunotherapy.The students should be enrolled in a graduate Medical, Health Sciences or Public Health program. They will perform a rigorous chart review and extract clinical and pathological information from the electronic medical record (EMR) system: EPIC and Co-Path. Students will have two mentors: Dr Jamaspishvili, principal investigator (Department of Pathology) and Dr Alina Basnet, co-investigator (Department of Hematology-Oncology) and will have the opportunity for exposure to cutting-edge translational and clinical research.

Dr. Jamaspishvili is actively looking for students who will immediately be available to work on ongoing prostate cancer research projects in her lab. Dr. Jamaspishvili is conducting translational and clinical cancer research projects in collaboration with other clinical departments (hematology-oncology, urology, radiology) and disciplines (computer science, bioinformatics, epidemiology). The project title is: “Digital tissue biomarker assessment for improved management of high-risk prostate cancer patients using image analysis and computer vision methods”. This highly collaborative project requires assembling a retrospective research cohort of SUNY Upstate patients diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer who progressed to recurrent, metastatic or castrate-resistant disease or presented with de novo metastasis in 2012-2020.The students should be enrolled in a graduate Medical, Health Sciences or Public Health program. They will perform a rigorous chart review and extract clinical and pathological information from the electronic medical record (EMR) system: EPIC and Co-Path. Students will have two mentors: Dr. Jamaspishvili, principal investigator (Department of Pathology) and Dr. Alina Basnet, co-investigator (Department of Hematology-Oncology) and will have the opportunity for exposure to cutting-edge translational and clinical research. The job requires a part-time research commitment to be discussed with the mentor beforehand. Required skills: patient chart review, advanced understanding of oncology, data curation and management using RedCap, data analysis and presentation.

Federal Work Study- Surgical Oncology Syracuse
This is a summer research opportunity for medical students to work on a systematic review. The student will work with their mentor to write Prospero protocol, perform a literature search based on PRISMA 2020 guidelines, collect relevant data, and learn the basics of statistical analysis. Additionally, the student will learn the steps of writing a manuscript. The student and the mentor will keep in touch weekly through remote meetings or email as required. The weekly tasks need to be completed. A detailed timeline, weekly plan, and expected outcomes will be designed and discussed. Faculty and student will perform troubleshooting as deemed necessary.

5 hrs per week for an individual familiar with Upstate’s Wellness programs. Duties will include creating marketing and communications materials, website editing, assisting Program Coordinator with major projects, gathering and keeping records of various programs, creating reports and developing resources for a variety of wellness programs for faculty, staff and students.
