Job/Department Summary:

Under general direction of the Executive Director of University Housing (UH), the Associate Director of UH Administration is responsible for directing the financial activities and operations of the Administration unit in University Housing. This position supervises a 7-9 person staff, works with parents and students to resolve housing-related issues, and plays a major role in the move-in/move-out process for students in the residence hall. The Associate Director recommends or establishes financial strategies, objectives, policies, and modifications for existing policies or new programs, and works with other managers, across functional lines, to effect process improvement. Additionally, incumbent has overall responsibility for marketing University Housing "Chico Preview Day" and "Choose Chico" day events. The Associate Director is responsible for planning, developing, managing, monitoring, and maintaining budgets of approximately 38 million dollars including: department’s Dormitory Revenue Fund, the Building Maintenance and Equipment Reserve account, as well as the Meal Plan Trust, and has signature authority for all department operations. UH financial operations include; purchasing, occupancy management, marketing, information systems, conference programs, and food service contract administration.

All management staff in University Housing demonstrate a commitment to the University Housing living experience which enhances the educational and social experiences of the residential student population. Incumbent will be asked to articulate and translate the department's mission, values and diversity statement into programs and services for which this position has direct responsibility.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Fluent written and verbal multi-lingual skills, especially in Spanish, Hmong, and/or Punjabi.
  • Experience working in a similar environment.
  • Experience using a Residential Management System.
  • A thorough knowledge of PeopleSoft systems.

Required Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business or Accounting, or related field
AND
Five years full-time experience in financial management. Relevant experience will include budget development, accounting, payroll, purchasing, contracts, and information technology and will include five years of full time supervisory experience. Experience should also include significant amount of regular contact with college-age persons (over three years).

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $54,996 - $176,556 per year. 

Anticipated Hiring Range:  Not expected to exceed $85,000 per year.  Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

Additional Information:

The person holding this position is considered a “Limited Mandated Reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a “designated position” under the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: University Housing and Residential Life - Director (all levels)), CAT-01, CAT-02)

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and is required tocomply with the requirements of this designation.

Position requires the incumbent to carry a department-issued cell phone and serve in the Admin on Duty rotation.

Position requires frequent evening and weekend time commitments and travel for conferences, training and staff recruitment.

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
