Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Parking & Events, the Community Service Specialist I is responsible for patrolling the campus on foot and/or by vehicle to provide enforcement of campus parking rules and regulations, including issuing citations; immobilizing and impounding vehicles; directing traffic and assisting police with traffic accidents and emergency calls for services; and providing parking information and general university information to visitors, students, staff and faculty.

Department Summary

Under the administration of the Assistant Vice President of Public Safety/Chief of Police, the Public Safety Unit is responsible for the safety, health and well-being of the university community. The Public Safety Unit consists of four divisions; Cal Poly Police, Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) and Business Services.

The mission of the unit is to promote a safe and secure learning environment by maintaining order, enforcing laws, providing professional police, emergency response, parking, and access services.

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to federal, state and campus policies, affecting public safety, and parking operations
  • Ability to verbally convey clear and precise communications, directions and commands; and ability to observe and to respond appropriately to resolve parking and traffic conflicts or problems using reasonable judgment.
  • Ability to observe and recall details and incidents, as well as detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and three months of related experience.

Salary:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $34,944 - $48,000 per year

Classification Range: $34,944 - $54,012 per year

This position may be "Designated" under California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This would require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within 6 months of assuming office and every 2 years thereafter.
