The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall Quarter 2022. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Duties include teaching undergraduate and master's level courses in line with Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing pedagogy which involves extensive lab work and projects, supporting and expanding curricular development in Computer Science or Software Engineering, pursuing research in these areas, and providing service to the department, the university, and the community.

Particular areas of interest include: all areas of computing including computer science education, with a focus on candidates who can direct efforts related to broadening participation in computer science across campus along with a focus on engaging with underrepresented students in research, teaching, service, advising, mentoring or community engagement in computing.

Required Qualifications:

An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate is completed prior to the start of the appointment.

Candidates must have significant experience in working with underrepresented students in research, teaching, service, advising, mentoring or community engagement. The experience is expected to be commensurate with the candidate’s time and involvement in the field of computing.

Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction, dedication to continued professional development and scholarship, and a broad-based knowledge of computer science. Candidates must have a strong commitment to working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting. Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language is required.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in university level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree), and experience with laboratory-based instruction.

San Luis Obispo, a city of about 47, 000, is located about 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean and midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles on California's scenic Central Coast. The city has a small but very vibrant downtown area. The Central Coast boasts many high quality wineries, beaches, art galleries, live music events, farmer's markets, and other excellent public education resources and recreation facilities, as well as a strong emerging technology scene. The area has an outstanding climate, with an annual average temperature of 70.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
