Position Description

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Department Chair for Chemistry and Biochemistry, this position provides technical, preparatory and advisory support for all organic and inorganic chemistry laboratory courses and organize and maintain the Organic Chemistry stockroom.  In addition, the incumbent must be able to implement the campus Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) as it relates to the overall University Injury and Illness Plan (IILP).   This IST II is responsible for obtaining chemicals, supplies and equipment for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, maintaining the inventory records and databases, storing, handling and dispensing equipment and materials, collection and storage of hazardous waste, supporting lecture and laboratory demonstrations, and faculty professional development. 

Department Summary

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles of performing support services.
  • Extensive knowledge of college level general, analytical, and organic chemistry courses with a comprehensive understanding of the laboratory techniques, methods and suitability of materials for related instructional needs.
  • Knowledge, training and experience in the proper procedures for the handling and storage of hazardous materials, hazardous waste, compressed gases, and cryogenic liquids.

Education and Experience

Three years experience providing instructional support services in a related discipline, acting as a student assistant, or in producing materials or supplies related to the discipline (two years of college with 16 semester units in courses in the related specialty area discipline may be substituted for one year of required experience OR four years of college with 16 semester units in courses in the related specialty area discipline may be substituted for two years of required experience).

Salary:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,000 - $65,000 annually

Classification Range: $46,884 - $81,348 annually
