Position Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Custodial Manager in Facilities Operations, the Support Services Manager is responsible for leadership and day-to-day operations of the Facilities Warehouse, two warehouse staff, a crew of approximately six laborers providing support services to multiple departmental needs including custodial maintenance, landscape maintenance, moving services, waste management, and skilled trades maintenance/construction projects, a crew of day time lead custodians and custodial staff to with the goals of utilizing limited warehouse space to its highest and best purpose, providing excellent service to all campus customers, achieving operational savings and efficiencies through strategic procurement and inventory management, and ensuring that campus and FMD activities requiring laborer support are safely and effectively planned, scheduled, and executed, and ensure campus high impact academic building restrooms are operational throughout the day.

Department Summary

Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (A&F), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments including Customer & Business Services; Environmental Health & Safety; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations. Key Qualifications

-Extensive knowledge of custodial operations and all related aspects of facilities management.

-Working knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn general purchasing principles, practices and procedures, including the processes of competitive bidding as required by the California State Statutes and Codes.

-Demonstrated ability to perform or learn campus routine purchasing, ordering and contract processes.

-Ability to rapidly learn general office procedures, the methods and practices used in receiving, storing, packing and shipping materials and supplies, and the methods of taking inventories and maintaining inventory records.

-Ability to gather and analyze data necessary for informed purchasing decisions, including solicitation and review/award of competitive bids.

Education and Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to four years of lead or supervisory experience in warehouse operations, logistics, supply chain management, or custodial management with experience managing a large and diverse staff working in a complex and fast paced environment. Demonstrated leadership and customer service skills, strong understanding of the methods and practices of personnel management. (A 4-year degree in business administration, logistics management, supply chain management or a related field may be substituted for two years of direct lead experience in warehouse operations).

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of (or ability to obtain by date of hire) a valid Class C California Driver's License.
