POLITICAL SCIENCE - The Political Science Department in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking a full-time lecturer position to begin September 14, 2023, for Fall Quarter, 2023. The current appointment is for three quarters (Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters) with the possibility of an extension to a second year. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties and responsibilities include teaching in our undergraduate program with specialization on American Government and Pre-Law. The teaching load is 15 units per quarter. 45 units total is full-time across the academic year. MA in Political Science and demonstrated evidence of or potential for excellence in teaching at the university level required, ABD or PhD with teaching experience preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

MA in Political Science and demonstrated evidence of or potential for excellence in teaching at the university level required; ABD or PhD preferred.

Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

ABD or PhD in Political Science with a concentration in a closely related field with successful teaching record preferred.

Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.  Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Cal Poly Political Science Department prides itself on its collegiality and commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. The department serves approximately 400 majors, 130 minors, and 25 graduate students. At the undergraduate level, the department offers concentrations in American Politics, Global Politics, Pre-Law and Individualized Courses of Study, as well as minors in Law & Society, Political Science, and Global Politics. It also administers a Master of Public Policy Program.
