Job Summary
Under general direction of the Senior Associate Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students & Director of the Campus Assessment Response and Education (CARE) Team position serves to ensure students’ success by facilitating, through nonclinical interventions, referrals, support, advocacy, and follow-up services in collaboration with other University departments or individuals, community agencies, parents/guardians, and stakeholders in the students’ success. This position oversees the Cal Poly CARE Team within the Office of the Dean of Students.
The Associate Dean of Students serves as a key member of the Dean of Students management team and as a principal advisor to the Dean of Students and Senior Associate Dean of Students on strategies to accomplish DOS goals and objectives. Additionally, the Associate Dean of Students performs professional work involving independent judgment, good communication skills, and sound fiscal management skills, and performs administrative responsibilities.

The mission of the Office of the Dean of Students is to serve as a resource for helping students resolve university-related issues and concerns. Key Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in successfully managing individual students in crises.
- Demonstrated ability to determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.
- Knowledge of student development and related federal and state legislation and regulations regarding student privacy.
- Comprehensive knowledge of effective personnel management practices and supervisory skills, including motivation, training, professional development, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline, with the demonstrated ability to effectively model appropriate professional behavior.
- Experience collaborating and working as a team leader to problem solve; ability to manage competing deadlines; ability to manage projects with a sense of urgency to complete projects, attention to detail, effective time management and follow-through to resolution of open items.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze the most complex situations and problems, which do not have precedence and adopt effective and at times creative courses of action.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of five years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field, such as: Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work.

Salary and Benefits
The anticipated hiring range for this role is $82,500 - $100,000 Per Year. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.
