| Under general direction, the Corporal performs a range of law enforcement duties to ensure the safety and security of the Chico State campus community. Responsibilities include patrolling campus buildings and grounds by foot or vehicle; maintaining public order; enforcing laws and regulations; responding to vehicle collisions and emergencies; apprehending violators; gathering evidence; and preparing clear oral and written reports. Corporals may testify in court and assist students, employees, and visitors on public safety matters.
In this lead role, the Corporal may supervise officers in the absence of a Sergeant and ensure actions are legally and constitutionally sound. Corporals may rotate through assignments and, when designated, serve in specialized roles such as investigator, crime prevention officer, or community relations specialist. They may also develop and deliver training in accordance with department and POST standards.
The University Police Department (UPD) provides 24/7 law enforcement, security, and emergency response. Staffed by sworn officers, civilian personnel, and auxiliaries, UPD officers have full statewide police authority.
As primary responders to campus emergencies—including medical incidents and environmental hazards—UPD also handles crime reporting and investigations (excluding homicides and missing persons under the Kristin Smart Act). The department emphasizes proactive, community-oriented policing aligned with the university’s mission.

The Senior Investigator ensures compliance with Title IX, Title VI, the CSU Nondiscrimination Policy, the CSU Interim Nondiscrimination Policy, applicable CSU Executive Orders, the Violence Against Women Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act. The incumbent will conduct interviews, compile data, interpret and analyze the facts, and provide written notices and investigation reports in a thorough and timely manner. The incumbent will employ dispute resolution, mediation, and problem-solving techniques to resolve issues on an informal basis consistent with the applicable CSU Policy. The incumbent will provide leadership for programming and education to prevent sexual misconduct and hostile environment issues, and serve on multidisciplinary committees that serve campus constituents. The incumbent may provide testimony regarding cases to outside agencies, provide advice and guidance to campus constituents, and interact with the CSU Office of the Chancellor, General Counsel, Civil Rights Attorney, Systemwide Director, Administrators, and colleagues at campuses within the CSU System. The Senior Investigator works independently and as a member of the Civil Rights Office team.
