Position Summary
The Associate Vice President/Executive Director of the University Corporation (UCorp) reports to the Vice President & CFO for Administration & Finance (A&F) and the UCorp Board of Directors. The incumbent serves as the chief executive officer responsible for the overall administration, leadership, and vision for a wide range of auxiliary operations. The incumbent oversees the main operations and strategic direction of UCorp and is essential in supporting the university’s mission by managing human resources for an average of 300 employees; grants and contracts administration; the campus bookstore contract; commercial operations (food vendors and retail services); current use of gift oversight; and business services to other campus auxiliaries. The incumbent oversees and manages an annual operating budget of approximately $4 million and overall assets over $94 million. The incumbent designs and implements program operations and process improvements, deconstructs complex information, and creates policies, and procedures that are clear, effective, succinct, and sustainable. The incumbent enhances organizational effectiveness, fosters partnerships and works across campus divisions to create and develop an environment of service, engagement, and awareness for UCorp.
UCorp is a recognized organization of the California State University (CSU) system and is a non-profit dedicated to benefiting students, faculty and staff. The primary purpose of UCorp is to help develop and administer grants and contracts, commercial enterprises, workshops, and conferences, and manage business partnerships on behalf of the university.
Position Information
Leadership, Management, and Administration
Leads initiatives to enhance UCorp’s role in supporting university programs and services.
Leads and mentors managers, staff, and student employees toward setting and achieving divisional, unit, and individual goals and objectives. Provides general oversight for the unit to advance employee recruiting, hiring, and retention strategies. Provides general oversight for employee performance and approved professional development to achieve division’s goals and objectives. Serves as a professional role model for divisional employees to advance ethical behavior, compliance, and commitment to SF State’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. Administers divisional budget, supervisory protocols and practices, and employee morale-building efforts. Promotes a positive work environment.
Oversees UCorp’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Ensures compliance with fiscal policies and regulations, managing risks and optimizing financial performance.
Program and Service Design, Implementation, and Success
Has overall responsibility for identifying, designing and implementing programs and services that support university priorities and enhance student experiences. Designs and implements information sharing systems, schedules, and protocols for assessing, improving, and communicating the division’s programs and services. Collaborates with university departments to develop and implement innovative solutions. Directs day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and implements policies and procedures to enhance operational excellence.
Compliance and Reporting
Ensures UCorp’s adherence to all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards. Oversight responsibility for accurate, timely, and complete reports as required by regulations, policies, and sound business practices. High-level responsibility for timely responding to audits, inspections, site visits, and other assessments pertaining to UCorp’s services. Collaborates with UCorp’s Board of Directors to provide necessary reports and updates.
Administration & Finance Divisional Leadership
Serves as a member of the A&F Leadership Team. Attends and participates in leadership team meetings and events. Serves on SF State, CSU, and other committees relevant to the position and as appointed by the Vice President & CFO. Fosters relationships with university leadership, faculty, staff, and external partners to advance UCorp’s mission. Represents A&F’s and UCorp’s interests and perspectives to campus community at university events, community meetings, public forums, and industry conferences. Builds support and enthusiasm for A&F priorities among A&F employees by attending and participating (including professional business presentations) in meetings and events. Advances A&F’s alignment with SF State’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. May assume temporary responsibility for other divisions when other members of the leadership team are absent or otherwise unavailable.
Campus Leadership
Advances SF State’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. Leads in a way that represents SF State’s commitment to student success and support for our faculty, staff, administrators, and community members. Collaborates with the President, President’s Cabinet, and other campus leaders to facilitate the development and implementation of A&F’s and UCorp’s programs and services. Leads and serves on committees as appointed by the President. Attends and participates in campus leadership meetings, events, and other activities that support SF State’s mission.
Other functions may be assigned as needed. In the event of a campus emergency, the Executive Director supports the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as the key SF State official during an emergency. This position is a 24-hour on-call position in case of emergencies and critical campus needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, higher education administration or other field related to the position from an accredited institution of higher education. A degree in an unrelated field may be considered if candidate possesses five (5) years of experience in financial and business operations in an institution of higher education including staff supervision.
Experience
- Five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in an institution of higher education or related sector
- Proven track record in progressively responsible financial management, strategic planning, and organizational development
- Staff supervision in a large organization with diverse and multiple constituencies
- Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn and adapt to, university operations, funding sources, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
Knowledge
- Finance and business principles and best practices in higher education
- Customer service principles and best practices in a higher education or similar organization
- Compliance in higher education institutions regarding federal and state laws and regulations
- Staff supervision, performance management, and morale-building principles and best practices
