Under the direction of the Supervising Plumber, provides skilled plumbing work in installation, repair, and maintenance of university structures, minor construction and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, replace, and maintain piping systems: Maintain piping systems including water, gas, air, steam, vacuum, storm drains, waste lines, irrigation systems, and related traps and valves.
  • Perform schedule preventive maintenance: Works with other skilled and semi-skilled workers in accomplishing assigned task.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code. Knowledge of the Safety Regulations of the division of Industrial Safety applicable to the plumbing trade. Excellent  knowledge  and ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade. Ability to read blueprints, work from plans, rough sketches, and specifications. Knowledge of confined space entry procedures. Backhoe experience desirable. Good oral, verbal, and written interpersonal communications skills. Ability to interact positively with others and the University. Experience working in a university or large public institutional setting.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a high school diploma and journey-level plumber skills similar to that acquired through the completion of a plumber’s apprenticeship program required.

Physical Summary

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

  • Valid California driver's license required.
  • City of Long Beach Health Department certificate for Limited Backflow Prevention Device Tester, highly desirable or must be obtained within six (6) months of hiring date.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,998 - $8,737 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
