| The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach Lecturer- AIS 235: American Indian Youth Literature: Learning to Tell the Good from the Bad. THe course surveys the history, cultural and political dimensions, and impact of children’s and young adult literature, including picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, and young adult novels. Focuses on the importance of works by Indigenous authors and illustrators who support the growth and understanding of tribal sovereignty. Analyses of award-winning, classic, and popular books will create awareness of the pitfalls and possibilities of children’s books and how books can shape peoples’ behaviors and decision-making as adults, especially for those in positions to influence governmental and industry policy that impact American Indian nations and communities. |

Takes a historical and topic-based approach to analyzing poetry, plays, short stories, memoirs, essays, and prose nonfiction by American Indian women. Covers land and sovereignty, colonization and decolonization, U.S. governmental policy and cultural genocide, civil rights and activism, missing and murdered Indigenous women, stereotypes and appropriation, and identity. |

Applicant pools are used to fill short-term Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool as will only be good for the current academic year.
