Salary and Benefits

The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,761.00/month to $4,500.00/month.

About the Position

This position serves as the Sports Information Director for CSUEB Intercollegiate Athletics, which consists of 15 varsity sports and 11 head coaches plus assistants. This position works to promote Pioneer Athletics and increase visibility of intercollegiate athletic programs.

Responsibilities

Sports Information

Oversees day to day athletic communication activities including but not limited to: website, social media channels, media content, interviews, and press releases.

Interacts with coaches and serves as primary contact for day to day communications for teams.

Compile and maintain a comprehensive archive system for historical data and records for all athletic programs.

Oversee engagement with national organizations for the purpose of submitting data, award nominations, and exposure for East Bay Athletics.

Act as the primary communications contact for the department, including interaction with the CCAA and NCAA.

This position has been identified to have significant responsibility for student and campus activities, and will be required to function as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act. In accordance with CSU Executive Order 1107, Implementation of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the incumbent will be responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act crimes to the University Police Department and/or the University Clery Director.

Responsibilities of the CSA include:

  • Complete annual training requirements
  • Report any alleged Clery Act Crimes that are reported to them using the online CSA Reporting Form
  • All alleged Clery Act Crimes should be reported in a timely manner

Media Relations

Act as primary communications contact and coordinate programming for platforms including but not limited to radio, television, internet, and broad media relations offices.

Work collaboratively with campus partners to integrate Pioneer Athletics in to institutional initiatives.

Oversee programming to prepare and train internal staff and student-athletes for media interaction.

Strategic Planning

Works with department colleagues to ensure all scheduling, calendars, events, etc are integrated in to the annual department plan as well as larger program goals.

Find opportunities for promotion with individual sport coaches that increase the bandwidth of exposure for Pioneer Athletics.

Effectively manage resources to set priorities and address outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work with diverse populations.

Highly organized and detail oriented.

Knowledge of NCAA.

A high level of computer literacy including Macintosh and PC; familiar with Quark, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe, Illustrator, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Acrobat, Presto/SideArm and Statcrew.

Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Ability to contribute to a professional organization.

Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

Master's degree preferred.
