About the Position:  
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed in educating students to be culturally, globally, socially, historically and environmentally astute, civically responsible alumni able to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join the team as the Associate Dean for Faculty. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Associate Dean for Faculty is a key member of the Dean’s staff and plays an important leadership role in the College and in working with the Dean to advance the vision and goals of the College. The Associate Dean for Faculty supports a culturally and ethnically diverse college professoriate. The position coordinates matters related to the search, recruitment, long-term success, and retention of faculty, including professional development of lecturers, as well as managing faculty related college committees and providing guidance on faculty related standards and policies. The Associate Dean for Faculty works in collaboration with the Humanities and Social Sciences Collective on Justice, Equity, and Transformation. The position also directs the process of part-time faculty evaluation, including the tracking of entitlement and completion of contracts. Working respectfully and cooperatively with faculty, the Associate Dean addresses faculty-related issues and concerns and works with appropriate individuals toward resolution. The position manages and coordinates department chair elections, supports professional development for department chairs, works in collaboration with the College Administrative Resources Manager to ensure appropriate staffing across the College, and facilitates effective communication among department chairs and support staff. The Associate Dean coordinates submission of College schedules to Admissions and Records and manages classroom allocation and other space needs. The Associate Dean also serves as liaison to Central IT and represents the College on appropriate university committees. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must hold a tenured position within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Dedication to the mission of the College and University;

• A record of excellence in teaching, research, and service;

• A commitment to collegial governance;

• A desire to work in support of the full range of programs in the Humanities and Social Sciences;

• Computer skills and knowledge of software applications appropriate for the position;

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;

• Collaborative and creative problem solving;

• Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statements;

• A commitment to increasing the diversity of college faculty, supporting and strengthening an inclusive culture in the workplace, and promoting an equitable environment;

• Successful leadership and supervisory experience. 


A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
