The Department of Economics at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure‐track assistant professor position in Economics with an appointment to begin Fall 2025. We are looking for candidates proficient in modern Machine Learning tools working in any of the Applied Micro fields, including health, education, labor, urban, public, environmental economics, industrial organization, and trade.

Position
CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities of this position will include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in data analytics, as well as teaching core graduate and undergraduate courses in the candidate’s areas of specialty within applied microeconomics. Faculty responsibilities also include contributing to the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing scholarship commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader University and disciplinary or local communities.
 
Required Qualifications
  • A completed Ph.D. degree in Economics at the start of the appointment;
  • Expertise in applying econometrics, machine learning, and big data techniques to Applied Microeconomic questions;
  • Potential to publish academic research in leading journals;
  • A commitment to high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and an interest in teaching a diverse student body, including first‐generation college students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • The department has a preference for candidates who have developed and taught courses in data analytics/machine learning and who use these methods extensively in their research.
  • Preference will also be given to candidates who have experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or students, as well as to candidates who have the ability to contribute to fostering diversity of the campus, curriculum, and/or discipline.

Compensation
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $9,100 to $9,278 per month. 
 
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work (https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm).  
 
Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.
