About the Position:
The Division of Student Affairs supports students academically, personally and professionally through student-centered educational services and resources. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Vice President of Student Affairs. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Student Affairs is a member of the President's Cabinet and provides leadership for the Division of Student Affairs. Student Affairs provides a diverse set of programs and services facilitating lifelong learning, a sense of personal and interpersonal competence, and human understanding of our global society. These services meet the needs of students as they progress through their college experience and also include problem-solving, research assistance and consultation. With a diverse and comprehensive set of responsibilities, Student Affairs contributes to the campus community with a special perspective on our students, their experience, and the campus environment. Student Affairs promotes an environment committed to advancing and assessing student learning and development, to innovation and collaboration, and to creating an inclusive campus community. The Vice President will be a dynamic leader, an effective and empowering manager, an advocate for the campus’s diverse student body, an experienced partner in shared, collegial university governance, and a collaborator who can continue to build relationships with the community to gain support for and understanding of the institution. Essential Qualifications
|
An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education and progressive administrative responsibility.
At least five years in a senior leadership role in higher education with demonstrated effective leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating, and advocating for a wide range of student-oriented programs with a student-centered approach.
Demonstrated effectiveness and sensitivity to a multicultural environment and a commitment to campus-wide educational equity and retention efforts.
Demonstrated collaborative experience working between all divisions, in particularly between Student Affairs and Academic Affairs and the ability to work effectively with students and faculty.
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student body and a commitment to student development.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
|
Progressive record of extensive and successful administrative experience, including experience at a large comprehensive university at the level of Vice President, Associate Vice President, or a similar position.
Demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing, and assessing co-curricular programs that enhance student engagement, leadership development, and overall success, aligning with institutional goals and diverse student needs.
Demonstrated success in strategic planning that fosters collaborative work with academic leaders and other stakeholders to identify the priorities of the University and develop strategies and tactics for achieving them.
Proven track record of successful collaboration in a shared governance environment and working within a collective bargaining environment in a democratic, flexible style to advance institutional goals and priorities.
Demonstrated record of supporting student success strategies that foster a holistic student-centered learning environment, increase retention and graduation rates, and address issues of access, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Demonstrated ability in implementing institutional-level, programmatic initiatives aimed at addressing issues of student success and wellbeing and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the service of providing high quality education leading to student success.
Evidence of successful partnerships with the broader community.
Demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing Hispanic-serving institutions and higher education today and the ability to address them in a large comprehensive university with positive outcomes.
Ability to articulate a compelling message about the value and impact of the University’s programs to diverse audiences.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
