PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Data Integration Services, the incumbent is responsible to provide analyst data integration and programmer analyst support. This includes facilitating and coordinating team efforts in close collaboration with other team members to address the specific needs of the University. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring industry-standard data modeling, data integrations, programming languages, and architectures are applied to develop, maintain, and support software and applications. The incumbent will provide application development support for campus solutions and software programs. The incumbent will work closely with customers during project initiation and planning to determine their needs, define requirements, and understand business processes. The incumbent is expected to ensure industry-standard methodologies are followed for Software and Systems Development Life Cycles (SDLC) from beginning to end. The incumbent will work closely with project coordinators, managers, and business analysts during project delivery to ensure SDLC efforts follow frameworks such as agile and waterfall. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring enterprise and engagement applications to ensure operational support is meeting service levels and applies industry-standard approaches in support of IT Service Management (ITSM) for service areas such as but not limited to, incident, problem, change, communication, configuration, and release management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Data Integration

Develops, maintains, and supports data processes and procedures for enterprise systems.  This includes all phases of development including analysis, project planning, programming, testing, and documentation. Ensures quality of overall system performance and data quality throughout the initial implementation/integration process.  Follows sound development best practices established by the Enterprise Applications and Data Management groups. Provides analysis and timely support in the resolution of system integration and implementation problems.  Assist other IT technical staff and system admins to maintain optimal operation of integration processes and identify/rectify integration processing issues to meet user needs.

  1. Programmer Analyst

Follows and applies administrative and technical design standards for programmer analysts and technical support staff to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, compliance, and maintainability of Enterprise & Engagement Applications. These standards include detailed coding guidelines, style and naming conventions as well as technical policies and procedures. Conducts periodic reviews to verify compliance with standards and addresses any nonconformities. Applies application software and solution updates and patches for standard release management processes for change and configuration management. Oversees change management and code migrations to ensure changes to production environments are tested, documented, reliable, secure, and adhere to both compliance and technical standards. Designs and develops complex reports and custom dashboards to support senior leadership.

  1. Technical Documentation

Develop and maintain documentation which includes (but not limited to):  Technical documentation for integration processes, systems, and customizations.  Non-technical documentation for functional stakeholders.  Best practices documentation which can help establish development standards.

  1. Application and Software Testing

Coordinate or participate in unit, integration, and end-user testing.

  1. Campus System and Project Support

Collaborates with IT and cross-functional/technical teams in requirements gathering, planning, coordination and implementation of new campus systems and projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of:  Enterprise systems, applications, and standards; structured programming techniques; data administration principles and data modeling concepts; formal data flow analysis methodologies; system/equipment capability, design restrictions, and security requirements; system development life cycle and structured systems development concepts; formal data structure design, relational database design, and file structure; client/server technologies;  network configuration, programming, and protocols. Understanding of and ability to integrate all systems including operating systems, applications, network, and databases, as well as knowledge of distributed processing technology. Understanding of technical and vendor documentation and ability to maintain internal documentation.  Skill in new systems and programming technologies.

Ability to: Apply consultative skills to assess user needs and communicate technology systems and solutions; maintain databases and middleware applications through performance tuning and applying patches/fixes/upgrades; develop program implementation plans, install software, and apply fixes; identify hardware/software interface problems; perform interactive debugging and to test and analyze program failures; use systems workflow and logic flowchart techniques; use project management tools. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in database management, applications packages and programming, systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Working knowledge of industry standard applications programming languages and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related technical field AND two (2) years’ experience with integration services are required. Working knowledge and skills in SQL, ETL programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions. Working knowledge of data integration operations support/programming or demonstrated project management in integration support operations. Additional experience, which has demonstrated the requisite skills/abilities, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge of ETL programming languages and protocols. Experience developing integration services, creating data sources from enterprise systems and/or other applications. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above. Exceptional demonstrated working knowledge of SQL, and technical literacy in ETL concepts and processes. Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional, persuasive, and tactful manner, and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships within a diverse, academic environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working in higher education. Working knowledge of enterprise systems, i.e. Student Administration, Financials, Human Resource, Extended Ed, and/or Data Warehouse systems and development. Additional technical skills including experience with secure server technology and Oracle/PeopleSoft tools, technology and architecture.  Boomi integration experience a plus.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.  May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
