PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Career Development Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator will be a campus-wide point of contact for academic departments that offer academic credit for paid and unpaid field placements including (but not limited to) internships, student teaching, clinical, research, service learning, or other community-based placements. This position will also serve as the CSUMB liaison to organizations and employers who provide field placements for CSUMB students. The Community Engagement Coordinator will also facilitate and ensure compliance with all CSU and CSUMB policies, working in partnership with CSUMB’s Risk Management and Business Operations Support offices, the CSU Chancellor’s office, and IT to resolve technical “back-end” issues with S4 and data integration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Coordinate and Serve as Liaison Between Community Partners, Employers, and CSUMB Departments

  • Support CSUMB academic departments in implementing community/employer field placements and site agreements, including those affiliated with the Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP), Service Learning, and with credit-bearing internship, field placement, and research courses.
  • Serve as the primary CSUMB contact for employers and community partners; connect them with CSUMB departments such as Risk Management and Business Operations Support, Career Development, Service Learning, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center, academic departments.  Support employers and other community partners in establishing and updating site agreements for internship, practicum, clinical, student teaching, research, and service learning, and any other field placement for which academic credit is awarded.
  • Represent CSUMB at local workforce-development meetings, CSU systemwide meetings, and relevant conferences or workshops. 

S4 Data Integrity and Compliance

  • Facilitate and ensure that all CSUMB departments comply with CSU standards, using formal site agreements and the CSU S4 database for any credit-bearing internship, practicum, service learning, clinical, student teaching, research, or other field placements, as well as for paid placements facilitated by CSUMB departments.
  • Provide oversight in managing S4 databases and a website to create an effective information hub to support all constituencies in the campus community engagement process.
  • Maintain CSU S4 database for all field placements, provide support for department representatives, and help develop training materials for S4 users (faculty, staff, employers, and students).
  • Work closely with the CSU internship, LAEP, and S4 teams and with CSUMB Business Support Operations and Risk Management to ensure that all CSUMB policies and procedures are up to date and comply with current regulations and mandates.
  • Work with CSUMB Academic Scheduling and Extended Education and academic departments to ensure that courses are coded with the correct field placement attribute each semester, and that course attributes export correctly to the S4 database.
  • Serve as liaison with IT to support S4 functionality, data integration, and user experience.

Data Analysis, Assessment, and Program Improvement

  • Develop and implement evaluation processes for community engagement activities.
  • Oversee development of training materials to support both community partners and CSUMB departments in their utilization of CSU S4 database not only for compliance but for program improvement and enhancement of community partnerships.
  • In support of external reporting requirements and program evaluation and improvement efforts, run database queries, analyze placement data, and prepare data summaries and formal reports as requested by campus administrators and the CSU Chancellor’s office.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough Knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations. Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management. Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and system analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.

Skills: Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups. Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Skills in the deployment of enterprise software applications to facilitate efficient and effective management of complex organizational information and project management processes.

Ability to: take initiative and work independently to determine effective approaches to projects and priorities; organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved; apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations; understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions; work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations; effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus; apply extensive expertise to the complexity of maintaining effective university-community partnerships in both face-to-face and online contexts; work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

  • Experience with community-engaged work.
  • Experience with program evaluation and data analysis.
  • Ability to interface with IT specialists in the implementation of effective enterprise software applications.
  • Knowledge of web design, social media tools, and other effective electronic communication strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree degree preferred.
  • Three years experience in implementing college-level community engagement programs.
  • Intellectual curiosity; creativity and innovation; integrity, accountability and mutual respect; diversity, equity and inclusion; service and civic engagement; sustainability; and, global orientation.
  • Personal experience working in diverse and multicultural communities.
  • Highly desirable: Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement.
  • Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Zoom, and Google Suite.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.  May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
