Under general supervision from the Building Operations Coordinator, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties associated with ensuring the execution of day-to-day operations of the University Student Union’s (USU) Reservations and Event Services department, including assisting in the hiring, training and supervision of student assistant employees including Student Meeting Room Crew Members, Shift Leads, and Student Operations Assistant; event, equipment, and facility management. To accommodate organizational needs, the position maintains a nontraditional schedule during the academic year with modest fluctuation to provide coverage during special events. This includes early mornings, evenings and weekends.


  • Assist with training and supervising the work of twenty-four (24) part-time student assistants (Student Operations Assistant and Student Meeting Room Crew Members and Shift Leads), monitor performance; generate performance evaluations; mete disciplinary action;
  • May assist with training and supervising the work of part-time Student Building Managers, monitor performance; generate performance evaluations; mete disciplinary action;
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate staffing levels based on the varying volume of activities occurring in the facility;
  • Review and provide appropriate follows up to information contained in work order requests, daily shift reports, and incident reports;
  • Develop training materials and presenting trainings to student assistant employees;
  • Substitute for student employees as necessary due to unforeseen absences, staff shortages, etc.;
  • Assist with student Building Manager functions including opening and closing the USU facility and its meeting and event rooms, providing on-site facility and event supervisions, and staying alert to safety and security issues and reporting them appropriately;
  • Oversee all scheduled events, ensuring that rooms are set up in accordance with customer requests, and that event sponsors, and event coordinators are aware of and comply with USU and University policy and procedure;
  • Serve as a liaison to tenants, resolve or report concerns as appropriate, and maintain positive relations with tenants;
  • Complete facility, personnel, and department related projects as assigned;
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of all meeting room related equipment. Update Mazevo inventory counts, as needed; maintains equipment and monitor condition of equipment. Works with vendors to facilitate the delivery of and/or repair of equipment;
  • Maintain and provide general upkeep and stocking of vending machines, wellness machines and menstrual product machines across the facility;
  • Work as the Connect2 liaison and conduct training for the Reservations & Events Service (RES) department staff;
  • Assist in developing and recommending policy and procedure;
  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and ensuring adherence to the USU RES annual operating budget;
  • Assist in generating a variety of statistical data and reports including USU Executive Director Reports to the Board of Directors, Brag Sheets, and Metric Reports;
  • Participate in University Student Union meetings and events;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.


One-year related experience, preferably working in a college union, and which involved supervision of student employees and/or volunteers.

Work is typically performed in a temperature-controlled environment.  Must be able to remain calm and composed in emergency or otherwise stressful situations.  Contact with members of the campus community and community-at-large required, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and the general public.

This position assists with the supervision of approximately 24 student employees


This position is employed through University Student Union (USU). USU offers an excellent benefits package.

The anticipated hiring range will be as follows and is dependent on experience and qualifications:

Hourly:      $ 20.26 - $ 22.59

Biweekly:  $ 1,621. 38 - $ 1,807.69

Annually:  $ 42, 156 - $ 47,000

HOURS: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. This position maintains a nontraditional schedule during the academic year with modest fluctuation to provide coverage during special events. This includes early mornings, evenings and weekends. The typical work schedule will be Monday, and Thursday 1pm – 10pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10am – 7pm.
