Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Sustainability Program Coordinator supports the implementation of CSUN’s Road Map to Sustainability, evaluates sustainable technologies, manages critical program data, and coordinates campus sustainability engagement and external reporting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assists in the development and execution of sustainability projects as outlined in the roadmap.
  • Assists with program coordination and alignment of initiatives with the Roadmap to Sustainability.
  • Collects, analyzes, and maintains data required for external sustainability reporting, such as AASHE STARS, Second Nature, and CSU Chancellor's Office.
  • Identifies and evaluates potential funding opportunities for sustainability projects, including grants, rebates, and incentives.
  • Coordinates telling CSUN’s sustainability story under the vision of the Director.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains Smartsheet tools—including workflows, dashboards, forms, and automations—to support sustainability planning, project tracking, and reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a job related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in sustainability, environmental studies, environmental science, public administration, planning, data analytics, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of professional experience supporting sustainability programs, project coordination, data management, or related analytical or technical work.
  • Demonstrated foundational knowledge of sustainability principles, reporting frameworks, and program implementation within higher education or similar large, complex organizations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of sustainability practices, reporting standards such as AASHE STARS, Second Nature, and CSU Chancellor’s Office requirements. Proven experience conducting cost-benefit analyses, managing sustainability projects, and securing funding through grants, rebates, and incentives is essential.
  • Expertise with digital platforms including Smartsheet and PowerBI for effective project tracking, reporting, and visualization is critical.
  • Strong communication skills, the ability to cultivate productive partnerships across diverse departments, and proficiency in coordinating sustainability storytelling and educational initiatives are also required.
  • Additional abilities include strong organizational and process management skills, attention to detail in data management and reporting, and the capability to independently resolve routine to moderately complex operational issues.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: 4562 / Sustainability Professional II / Grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5787- $ 6647 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $ 5787 - $ 8430 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
