Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for providing program leadership for the planning, development and management of events and programs for SDSU Alumni. Key duties will include strategic planning, relationship development, event logistics coordination and program evaluation & metrics. Working closely with the SDSU Alumni Director of Marketing, this position will also assist with marketing and communication efforts for events and programs including SDSU Alumni lifetime membership.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Three to five years of experience in the event planning field, preferable in a higher education institution, non-profit or large, complex organization is preferred
- Demonstrated experience coordinating all aspects of events such as working with internal and external vendors, organizing menu selections based on dietary needs, communication timelines, production schedules and contract familiarity
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and when planning and executing an event from start to finish
- Must be able to exercise confidentiality, tact and exhibit sound professional judgment; ability to manage emergency situations with composure
- Experience working with key volunteers
- Well organized, ability to effectively multi-task, ability to prioritize work, problem solve, make decisions and meet scheduled deadlines under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relate and communicate effectively with a diverse population of alumni, staff, faculty, students, colleagues and guests
- Ability to present a consistent, positive approach to alumni, staff, students and all internal and external contacts by being courteous, respectful, helpful and cooperative at all times
- Must be able to facilitate meetings, trainings and orientations in a professional manner
- Ability and availability to attend events or perform duties outside of normal work hours (will include weekends)
- Ability to travel and attend off-campus appointments and events
- Excellent organizational, time management, and detail skills
- PC skills including use of Adobe and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop)
- Database skills (Oracle, Ellucian CRM) or equivalent software preferred.
- Valid California driver’s license within 10 days of hire
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,167 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
