Position Summary:

UDRI is looking for an AI/ML Research Engineer to join the SPIRE group. You will contribute to a growing team responsible for development, security and operations frameworks and documenting research and development workflows supporting secure, scalable AI systems. This is a full time benefit eligible position that offers health, dental and vision insurance, retirement, disability, tuition assistance for you and your dependents, vacation/sick accrual and holiday pay. An ideal candidate for this role will be excited at the prospect of technical research, development and implementation of state of the art AI/ML techniques. The candidate will also enjoy a focus on the execution of these capabilities in challenging, operationally relevant environments. Knowledge of current Air Force programs in this technical space, specifically air combat operations and aerial refueling, is imperative. The candidate will also have experience in leading technical teams, organizing priorities and generating and directing tasking to meet emerging mission needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree
2. Minimum of 8 years related work experience
3. Active US SECRET (or higher) clearance
4. Successful professional experience programming in Python or other similar language
5. Understanding and professional experience with current Air Force R&D efforts in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Autonomy and Machine Learning with a focus on aerial combat and aerial refueling
6. Professional experience with and demonstrated understanding of Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithms and techniques
7. Enthusiastic, motived, self-starting individual with a willingness to learn new skills. Examples of this include evaluating new AI/ML and autonomy capabilities; finding and fostering technical connections between projects and technologies
8. Professional experience with source code version control systems such as Git, Subversion, or similar
9. Effective written and verbal communication skills
10. Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Master's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
2. Professional experience with image and video identification and recognition techniques
3. Demonstrated, effective leadership and team management experience
4. Demonstrated, effective ability to teach and mentor junior engineers
5. Demonstrated, effective interpersonal skills
6. Ability to promote inclusive excellence in the workplace
