THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT EGLIN, AFB. The primary purpose of this position is to perform on site research at the AFRL Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The duties associated with this position are to conduct and manage chemistry/engineering laboratory activities involving measurement of energetic materials' microstructural properties. Responsibilities include instrument operation and maintenance, experimental design and implementation, data analysis, and reporting of results. A successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a dynamic and challenging team.

Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer, Co-Op/Intern Warner Robins, GA
The position will be focused on reverse engineering/designing aerospace components to be manufactured using metal powder bed fusion and fused deposition modelling additive manufacturing processes. Focus will be on determining the fit, form and function of existing aerospace components and translating this knowledge into the technical data required to produce the equivalent or superior performing part using an additive manufacturing processes. An additive manufacturing product development process is used to guide the design engineer, but it is essential that the engineer be well versed in the fundamentals of mechanical design as well as possess the ability to assess requirements and choose the most economical combination of part geometry and material properties to take full advantage of the additive manufacturing process. This will include material / design/ process risk assessments and selection, providing test plan execution, test data interpretation, and validation of part performance vs. end-use requirements. The position will also require the ability to resolve design-related performance issues

The University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking a highly motivated and highly talented engineer/scientist to manage and perform in-situ process monitoring research in metal additive manufacturing (AM) onsite at Wright Patterson Air Force Base - AFRL. This work will drive novel research focused on in-situ process monitoring, data collection, and analysis of metallic additive manufacturing via Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). This position will work with AFRL engineers/scientists to perform research designed to advance current understanding of the effects of laser manufacturing processes on materials through sensor development, implementation, data collection, and data analysis. Work activities may include: 1. Planning and executing in-situ sensor focused experiments 2. Integrating and modifying in-situ process sensors 3. Operating, in-situ sensors/suites for laser powder bed fusion machinery 4. Collecting and analyzing AM build data, including in-situ process monitoring data 5. Working with analysis tools to extract physical meaning from in-situ process data 6. Interfacing with machine learning, NDE, and characterization expertise at UDRI and AFRL to correlate in-situ process data to other data sources 7. Building and routing of specimens for data collection, characterization, testing, and correlation 8. Interfacing with data collection and management tools This position will work with a team of AM research scientist in a new additive manufacturing research lab at AFRL.

This person will perform the function of a post-doctoral research engineer in the field of mechanical behavior of metallic materials with special attention given to understanding and modeling the interplay between microstructure and damage mechanisms from room to elevated temperatures. Major duties include leading investigations to determine and model the relationship between microstructure and mechanical behavior of materials, especially under cyclic and fatigue crack growth conditions. Additional duties include writing technical reports detailing microstructural characterization, experimental/computational procedures, and mechanical behavior findings for contributions into journal papers and technical reports. We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position to study glaciers in High Mountain Asia. The selected candidate will conduct glacier modeling, analyze glacier dynamics, evaluate remote sensing datasets (optical/radar/ICESat) and develop tools for integrating remote sensing data and model outputs. The selected candidate will be involved in ongoing projects that include glacier mapping, glacier lake outburst flood, glacier modeling, debris thickness, etc. This position provides an opportunity to grow your skillset and also allows you to bring new skills and unique methods to study the impact of climate change on these glaciers. Expertise in machine learning techniques and coding experience is not required but strongly preferred. It is important for scientists to use their expertise for societal benefits. Thus, the candidate is also expected to support ongoing efforts in using geospatial techniques for societal impact analysis, such as "Rights for Water," primarily related to glacier meltwater or other human rights violations.
