The position will be focused on reverse engineering/designing aerospace components to be manufactured using metal powder bed fusion and fused deposition modelling additive manufacturing processes. Focus will be on determining the fit, form and function of existing aerospace components and translating this knowledge into the technical data required to produce the equivalent or superior performing part using an additive manufacturing processes. An additive manufacturing product development process is used to guide the design engineer, but it is essential that the engineer be well versed in the fundamentals of mechanical design as well as possess the ability to assess requirements and choose the most economical combination of part geometry and material properties to take full advantage of the additive manufacturing process. This will include material / design/ process risk assessments and selection, providing test plan execution, test data interpretation, and validation of part performance vs. end-use requirements. The position will also require the ability to resolve design-related performance issues |
