Position Summary:       

Under the direction of the Associate Registrar and in conjunction with the University Registrar, is responsible for administering the processes of the Scheduling and Registration area. The Assistant Registrar for Scheduling and Registration must work closely with the campus Deans, Program Directors and Chairpersons, Advisors, as well as the Associate Registrars and each of the Assistant Registrars to ensure that the processing of the area’s tasks is in concert with the overall processes of the office. The Assistant Registrar is directly responsible for the training and supervision of all support staff who are assigned to the Scheduling and Registration area, as well as others at the Wilf Campus.

The position will primarily be located at the Wilf campus in Washington Heights, but occasional travel to other Yeshiva University campuses will be required as well.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Associate Registrar
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of the school’s academic calendars
  • Supervises and administers the creation and maintenance of the master schedule of courses for the Spring and Fall terms
  • Meets all deadlines for contracted submission of files and assures accuracy of final publication of courses
  • Maintains course inventory, course offerings, room scheduling, faculty assignments, and room reservation files and related systems
  • Schedules sections into classrooms for all academic terms
  • Coordinates the processing of registrations for Independent Studies, Co-Op courses, and Theses
  • Prepares and disseminates reports pertaining to scheduling and facilities
  • Functions as a primary assistant in the registration process
  • Assists in managing the general operation of unit: addresses general inquiries from the staff and is prepared to provide direction as necessary
  • Ensures that both the counter and telephones are covered so that the office is open for business as scheduled
  • Ensures that there is adequate phone and counter coverage throughout the day
  • Understands the workings of each area within the unit and becomes involved in any decision-making process that may be necessary in the absence of a colleague who is directly responsible for the area
  • Produces an annual flow chart, which calendars the processes and tasks for this area of responsibility
  • Develops and maintains an effective and cooperative working relationship with each constituency within the academic community, government, and private agencies, and/or the public in order to accomplish the objectives of the unit
  • Maintains integrity and appropriate confidentiality in university and unit operations
  • Assists the Associate Registrar and the Registrar in various tasks and in other areas of the unit as they may occur
  • Shares in the general management of the office: addresses general inquiries from the staff and is prepared to provide direction as necessary

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Experience & Educational Background:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, along with at least three years of experience in an administrative position in higher education
  • Managerial experience in an office with registration, academic record keeping, including academic scheduling, and National Student Clearinghouse updates preferred
  • Experience in academic records management, curriculum administration, and student services preferred
  • Knowledge of FERPA and other relevant federal and state laws is required
  • Familiarity with word processing, file sharing, spreadsheets, and database programs, as well as experience with statistics and data analysis required

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy, strong analytic and problem-solving skills, ability to multitask, effectively prioritize work, and adjust to changing workloads and deadlines
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, including employee development and performance management skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word required; skill in the use of computerized student information systems, such as Banner, strongly preferred

Salary Range:

$67,000 - $70,000
