Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of considerable difficulty including organization, administration, periodic review, planning, policy development, fiscal management and purchasing for the Nursing and BNA programs. The position involves maintaining accreditation of the nursing program through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approval of the BNA program through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).  Work is distinguished by the preparation of skilled healthcare professionals for the community, teaching courses offered in the department where necessary, and supervising full time faculty and adjunct instructors.  Direction is received by the assigned manager.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing. Licensed registered professional nurse in Illinois or willing to obtain license transfer to Illinois. Two years of experience in a clinical nursing practice. Two years of experience as an instructor in a nursing education program that includes: teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness measures or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of education methods, administration, and current accreditation and licensing procedures.
  • Considerable skill to independently analyze and make recommendations regarding programs, procedures, and operations with regard to areas of responsibility.
  • Considerable interpersonal, verbal, presentation and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of staff, administration and stakeholders in a diverse community. 
  • Considerable skill to work independently with minimal supervision in a team-based environment.
  • Working skill in the use of databases, spreadsheet applications, and word processing, preferably with the Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Essential Duties:

    1. Responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the Nursing (NUR) and Basic Nurse Assistant (BNA) programs.
    2. Maintain Nursing program accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and BNA program approval through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
    3. Develop and maintain affiliations with clinical agencies and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
    4. Develop curriculum and enhance instruction within the Nursing department, Teach courses where applicable.
    5. Prepare and monitor Nursing program budget, purchase equipment and supplies, maintain student lab and equipment.
    6. Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Nursing full time faculty, adjunct faculty and skills validators.
    7. Participate in academic and professional development, departmental and college committees
    8. Promote public relations for ECC and the Nursing programs through community involvement
    9. Available to respond to internal and external customers, either in person, through email or over the phone, during scheduled business hours.
    10. Demonstrate independent judgement and discretion in making position related decisions.
    11. Maintain required training, licensure and/or certification
    12. Maintain confidentiality of privileged information and adhere to applicable privacy laws.
    13. Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
    14. Maintain an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the department is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
    15. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
