Project Assistant for the Hartley Lab summary: The person hired for this position will help with an NIH-funded project studying Aging and Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs in approximately 1 in 700 live births in the U.S. Due to having a third copy of chromosome 21, adults with DS have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease than other adults. Our lab is part of a large research consortium that is studying the natural history of Alzheimer’s disease in adults with Down syndrome. The study involves the data collection of clinical, cognitive, imaging, and biofluid biomarkers. We also study how lifestyle factors – sleep, physical activity, stress, cognitive stimulation, and social engagement – alter the timing of Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome and may serve as modifiable targets in interventions. The person hired for this position will assist in the administration, training, and set up of the supplement site located in the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.. In particular, the student will help with training the Puerto Rico supplement site in study recruitment, assist with study management and regulatory practices, team organization efforts, training of lab staff, and assist in administering study procedures. The person will work with other team members to assist with the configuration and launch of the supplement site, ensuring it meets academic and administrative requirements.. The person will also aid in data analysis and writing of manuscripts and presentations.
