Position Summary

We are looking to fill a temporary, non-benefitted position in the Office of Graduate Education. The position will start as soon as February 16, 2025.  The Office of Graduate Education is open Monday – Friday, 8am-4:30pm and this position is approved to work 30 hours per week during these times; additional hours may be available depending upon the office’s needs.  The position will not exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year. The position is expected to go up until the beginning of September and may be eligible for extension depending on the needs of the office and if the position has not exceeded 1,000 hours.  The duties include a broad range of administrative duties for the Office of Graduate Education with a focus on graduate student services.

The ideal candidate is detail oriented, works well independently, and excels in a fast-paced setting that requires cyclical and recurrent processes. 

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

While upholding and following University policies and procedures, the following duties are required for this position:

  • Must be available to work 30 hours each week on campus Monday-Friday from mid-February through the beginning of September, except for University holidays and closures.
  • Complete a thorough review of all documents on file for students who have applied to graduate and prepare a high volume of graduation evaluations to be sent to departments and students.
  • Work with the student services team and departments to correct student degree audits and records which may need course substitutions, waivers, or coursework placed in the proper category
  • Collaborate with departments to review student academic information and clearly, politely, and effectively communicate with students regarding remaining degree requirements.
  • Review and approve formatting of theses and dissertations before final submission to the University and provide feedback to students.
  • Assist with the spring commencement ceremony, including the review and update of the commencement program, responding to inquiries regarding commencement and graduation and assisting with the line-up of students the day of the ceremony.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties, as required, to support the student services areas.
  • Maintain good communication and provide excellent customer service to students, departments, and administrative staff.
  • Serve as a back-up receptionist, answering phones, greeting visitors, and answering general questions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft Office software, including Excel
  • Capable of quickly learning and using new software systems including University Banner records system
  • Exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Dependable and able to work well with others in a team environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently with minimal supervision
  • Extremely organized and able to multi-task various projects and priorities
  • Communicates effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing with students, departments, and administrative offices on campus
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, prepare evaluations and clearly explain outcomes to departments and students.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of one year of administrative office experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • University student services experience
  • Experience using a student database system, such as Banner
  • Experience reviewing and evaluating university curriculum

Work Schedule

30 hours per week, M-F between 8am and 4:30pm, up to 1000 hours/year

Hourly Rate

The hourly rate for the position is $21.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
