About the role
In this role, you will lead and support Parks & Gardens staff and contractors in the delivery of daily maintenance programs across Council’s open spaces. You will coordinate work schedules, monitor program delivery, and ensure high-quality outcomes are achieved safely, efficiently, and in line with established standards and timeframes.
Work type: Permanent Full-time
Classification: Band 5 $83,436 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide expertise in the field of horticulture for the purposes of maintaining the healthy growth of plants and the quality of maintenance services expected by council.
- Allocate, provide direction and supervise to the staff and contractors regarding how work is carried out and to what standard / service levels are required.
- Ensure that effective and efficient work practices are utilised by the maintenance crews and contractors to achieve desired maintenance levels.
- Report to the Parks Maintenance Officer reactive or routine maintenance activities/works.
- Capture accurate data and documentation relative to the works performed.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OH&S in relation to daily duties and Parks & Gardens operations.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a trade Certificate in Horticulture or equivalent relevant experience in the industry and experience leading, motivating, and influencing maintenance staff.
Essential:
- Demonstrated supervisory experience in the broad range of Parks and Gardens maintenance activities.
- Experience in working with a variety of plant & equipment used for Parks & Gardens maintenance.
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage time effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OH&S legislation relevant to the industry.
- A high level of written, variable, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the use of corporate software.
- Current Working with Children check (employee).
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence (mandatory requirement).
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
