The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this temporary part time position as an EAL/D Teacher at John Therry Catholic College, Rosemeadow commencing at the start of Term 1, 2025

This position exists to work collaboratively with subject specialist teachers to deliver quality learning and teaching whilst enhancing the academic English language learning opportunities for EAL/D students as they continue in their development of Standard Australian English.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position sits within the Learning K-12 Team, the position requires significant experience in curriculum and the capacity to support EAL/D students within Secondary Schools. This role is part of a wider EAL/D team and as such, the EAL/D Teacher will be required to:

  • collaborate with the School Leadership Team and CEDoW EAL/D Officers.

  • work within the school team to implement the EAL/D Management Plan responsibilities.

  • design and facilitate professional learning opportunities in order to build teacher capacity.

  • coordinate, facilitate and respond to the collection of student work samples and assessment data.

  • support EAL/D students’ learning needs through a range of pedagogical processes, including collaborative planning, co-teaching with classroom teachers and the design of student learning plans.

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding and commitment to the mission and purpose of the Catholic School within the broader Catholic Church.

  • A well-articulated understanding and application of student-centred, quality EAL/D pedagogical practices that are grounded in current evidence-based research.

  • The ability to identify EAL/D students’ needs and plan for appropriate student support 7-12.

  • Apply expert knowledge of the diverse needs of students of EAL/D to support their full participation in learning.

  • Facilitate the analysis of student work samples using the ACARA EAL/D Learning Progressions (and/or The ESL Scales) to direct teaching and learning.

  • Use a range of assessment strategies and analyse data to inform student learning.

  • Demonstrate commitment to engage professionally with colleagues, parents /carers and the wider school community.

  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post graduate TESOL qualification or a willingness to undertake such training.

  • Appropriate qualifications for teaching Secondary 7-12

  • Accredited Level B to teach Religious Education in accordance with To Work, Teach and Lead policy or a commitment to gain this level within the first 5 years of employment with CEDoW.

  • The applicant must be accredited with NESA to teach in NSW.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE

This role is classified as child related work and therefore a Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.
