The Director of Schools Diocese of Wollongong, invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for a permanent full time position with Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) commencing as soon as possible. This People and Culture role is part of a dedicated team in Child Safety and Professional Services (CSaPS).  The function of the CSaPS team is to develop, maintain and deliver Child Protection systems across CEDoW, providing advice on related issues arising in the 38 systemic Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Illawarra, Macarthur and Southern Highlands.  The CSaPS team works to continually strengthen child safe culture and standards across our organisation.

The Child Protection Officer role will:

  • conduct investigations and provide expert advice and support with child protection matters arising in schools

  • undertake effective case management and case collaboration as required

  • collaborate with colleagues in providing professional support, training and development for continual improvement in child safe standards in schools

  • include an investigative, risk assessment and compliance function in a range of matters including student concerns, reportable conduct, breaches of code of conduct and alleged misconduct, complaints of a child protection nature

  • provide advice on related issues arising in schools to assist with child protection and related legislative compliance and foster good professional practice

  • contribute to the development of contemporary and effective workplace policy, procedures and systems.

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Capacity to understand and support the Catholic Church’s Mission in Catholic Education

  • Extensive knowledge of Child Protection legislation and related legal issues and Child Safe Standards

  • Proven expertise in the management of complex child protection matters

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including conflict resolution

  • Ability to give sound advice to local leaders (School Principals, Heads of Service)

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, and meet deadlines

  • High standard of confidentiality

  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills

  • Competent in the writing of reports and formulating recommendations with cogent argument and attention to detail

  • Experience in successfully conducting investigations, risk assessments, safety and support planning

  • Current drivers licence and registered vehicle (travel costs will be compensated)

  • Tertiary degree qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Legal, Social Sciences, Human Resources

  • We would consider a teacher-qualified person with excellent knowledge of Catholic Education schools and systems.

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA

  • At least 5 years of experience working in this field

  • Skills in interviewing children

  • Policy development and adult training skills and experience

A 6-month probationary period will be applied to the position

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE

This role is classified as child related work and therefore a Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.
