Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for an Aboriginal Participation Coordinator who is passionate about creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You’ll play a vital role in supporting project teams to meet Aboriginal participation commitments — through employment, business engagement, and community connection. This is your chance to be part of a project that delivers far beyond infrastructure, helping shape lasting social and economic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams to meet Aboriginal business and employment targets
  • Support planning and delivery of Aboriginal engagement activities (e.g. NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation events, Nudge programs)
  • Liaise with procurement and commercial teams on subcontractor involvement
  • Assist with recruitment and support of Aboriginal trainees and apprentices
  • Maintain and update Aboriginal Participation Strategies
  • Build strong relationships with Traditional Owner groups, clients, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with our Community team on engagement initiatives and public events
  • Provide input to tender scopes and subcontractor specifications
  • Champion the values and objectives of our project alliances, contributing to key KPIs and outcomes
  • Represent BMD at community and stakeholder events

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with:

  • Degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Community Development, Indigenous Studies or Communications/Public Relations
  • Prior experience on major infrastructure projects (Transport, Water, Defence) highly regarded
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability & initiative to work autonomously
