Performance Development Engineer

Mercedes AMG HPP are seeking an exceptional Performance Development Engineer to join our world championship winning team at Brixworth. The purpose of this tole is to be responsible for generating and developing power unit performance ideas that lead to an on-circuit performance improvement. These performance improvements can come from many areas of development, such as increased power unit output, reduced heat rejection, improved driveability and better use of fuel/electrical energy budget. As well as the creation of new ideas, the Performance Development Engineer is responsible for devising and running test programmes using simulation, test rigs, dynos or the track environment in order to quantify performance improvements. He/she is responsible for planning, preparing and running the test, and for the subsequent data analysis and reporting of results and conclusions. This is an exciting and challenging role, which allows you to contribute directly to our performance on track. Be skilled at…

  • Generating creative new ideas and problem solving
  • Working with colleagues to turn the idea into something tangible that can be tested
  • Defining appropriate engine build and test specs
  • Devising, running and delivering high quality tests
  • Running tests to challenging timescales in a fast moving dynamic environment, without compromising quality and confidence in the outcome

Have experience of…

  • Development test specification, preparation, execution, results analysis and reporting
  • Data analysis using packages such as Excel and Matlab
  • Running engines on dynos

Demonstrate knowledge of…

  • High performance engines and systems
  • Engine test facilities
  • A particular area of performance development, e.g. gas exchange, combustion, friction, boosting, ERS, calibration

Hold these qualifications…

  • 2:1 degree (minimum) in mechanical engineering or similar discipline
