Turbo Technical Specialist

We are looking for a Turbo Technical Specialist to join us on site, on a permanent basis. This role is not a man-management role, but is a subject-matter-expert in turbo design and development and you'll be responsible for leading the design technically in the team. Purpose of the role is to… • The Turbo Technical Lead will be the acknowledged expert for rotating components. • Lead conceptual modelling via hand calcs & 2d modelling, to fully detailed finite element modelling and health monitoring during service. Ensure models used to develop the product are correlated to running data. • Identify toolsets required to ensure continuous product development and support right first time engineering principles.

THEREFORE WE NEED YOU TO…

Be skilled at…

  • Finite Element analysis of turbo machinery.
  • Rotordynamics and blade vibration analysis.
  • Health monitoring using accelerometers to identify potential issues before they occur.

Have experience of…

  • Mechanical design of turbomachinery components
  • Advanced finite element analysis for turbomachinery components, including high temperature fatigue.
  • Turbomachinery and bearing failure investigation.
  • Rotordynamics analysis using XLRotor (or similar software)
  • Rig and experimental test definition and execution.

Demonstrate knowledge of…

  • Material properties and selection.
  • Mechanical design of turbo components.
  • General finite element analysis of a broad range of components.

Hold these qualifications…

  • Degree qualified with relevant science/engineering degree in mechanical engineering.

Be…

  • Conscientious methodical problem solver.
  • Self-motivated and results driven.
  • Able to work as a part of a team, clearly communicate complex technical topics to different areas of the business.

Success in this role will be if you…

  • Prevent PU failures via health monitoring and fault containment.
  • Bring performance to the PU with new design via our performance process.
  • Increase our current and future product understanding to open up the operational envelope of the turbo and unlock performance.
  • Increase the technical knowledge of the turbo team via internal training and documentation.
  • Drive improvements in rig testing capability and learning.
  • Drive improvements in the models used for product development and ensure validation to running data.
