Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 531689), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second fixed-term contract.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in Bioethics, Philosophy, Law, Social Sciences or a related field, and experience in medical ethics or health humanities. Clinical background is preferred. Applicants should have a proven track record in both teaching and research in bioethics or any of the diverse fields that contribute to the ethical and humanistic dimensions of medical research and practice. Excellent communication skills that inspire student learning in medical ethics and enable meaningful dialogues and collaborations at the interface of medicine, healthcare and a range of humanities disciplines as well as research interests that promote partnerships with clinical disciplines, are desirable.
The appointee will be expected to (i) teach and refine a medical ethics curriculum for undergraduate medical and health professions students, (ii) conduct and publish high quality research work, (iii) supervise students conducting research at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and (iv) assume service/administrative responsibilities.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
