The Role

The Indigenous Tutorial Network provides academic tutoring for First Nations Australians enrolled at Deakin University. This is available to any First Nations student enrolled from any discipline. We provide this support by employing casual ITN Tutors. The tutors work one-on-one with the students based on the needs of the students within the allocation of 2 hours per unit per week framework. As a result of the variety of student requests we need a diverse pool of tutors. At the moment we need tutors in the following fields:

  • Indigenous Knowledges
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Education (Early Years)
  • Public Health
  • Indigenous Research
  • Nursing
  • Law
  • Education (Primary)
  • And more

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Hold at minimum a bachelors degree
  • Demonstrate strong academic skills
  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person


  • Experience providing academic support

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide one-on-one academic support
  • Provide advice on sentence and paragraph structures
  • Provide advice on assessment structure (for example essays, literature review, or memorandum)
  • Provide advice on referencing and paraphrasing
  • Help break down assessment task questions referring back to the assessment task rubric
  • Consolidate student’s understanding of unit content
