Who are we?

Deakin is a cutting-edge public university in Victoria, revolutionising education with 61,000 students across five campuses. These positions work in our amazing People Services division. People Services are the operational arm of the People Function. Comprising of 3 dedicated teams (People Operations, Recruitment Services and Payroll) we provide the first point of contact for HR services to staff at Deakin. Key services include resolving general HR queries, payroll administration, end-to-end recruitment coordination and maintaining our People system, DeakinPeople. Sitting within the Customer Experience Service Hub, the People Services team partner with People and Culture to deliver a high quality, customer focused service that is reliable and trustworthy. These attributes combined enable us to strive for an efficient and enjoyable experience for our staff.

The Senior Adviser, Recruitment Services will provide end-to-end solutions for university stakeholders focused on recruitment, attraction, selection and onboarding. This position will support the Recruitment Services team in providing high quality coordination and support for various employment types across all areas of the University. This position will contribute to the continuous improvement and application of recruitment best practice by supporting the delivery of recruitment projects and initiatives.

As a Senior Adviser, you will:

  • Provide support and advice on the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle from the first activity to the last, processing all steps within the team, with particular focus on fixed term, continuing, casual and direct appointments.
  • Ensure efficient and accurate processing of recruitment support activity across multiple areas including sourcing, advertising, shortlisting, interview scheduling/logistics, reference checking, generating employment contracts and providing candidate outcome notifications.
  • Explore global mobility options / issues and escalate as required.
  • Processing and providing tailored advice on unpaid appointments.
  • Proactively build new and productive relationships with a diverse range of potential candidates, stakeholders or key and influential individuals both inside and outside the University.
  • Strive for excellence and consult regularly with clients to clarify who requires the information, and tailor outcomes to their needs.
  • Communicate with confidence using examples and the most appropriate influencing technique for a given situation to increase understanding and support.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience or extensive experience and specialist knowledge in recruitment.
  • Experience in a large shared service environment, preferably in an internal recruitment function. 
  • Experience with Service Now, and/or Page Up, yet not essential
  • Experience in managing end-to-end recruitment with a focus on the client experience.
  • A willingness to engage with stakeholders both over the phone and via Deakin systems.
  • A proactive mindset to adopt best practice recruitment initiatives and applying these to your work.
  • Higher Education experience, yet not essential
