About the role:
The Faculty of Health is dedicated to leading excellence in teaching, learning, social development and cutting-edge research. The Deakin Centre for Global Preventive Health and Nutrition focuses on solution-led research with real-world impact. We work closely with industry partners and the government to put findings into practice.
The Research Fellow will initiate, design and conduct productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs in their discipline area. This role involves leading and collaborating on research activities to deliver innovative outcomes, and is suited to a motivated researcher keen to build new areas of expertise within a dynamic team.
The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will initiate and conduct research in the area of digital marketing of breastmilk substitutes (BMS) in Australia and offshoring of marketing to Asia. Specifically, the Research Fellow will coordinate the #DigitalMums study, which will involve expanding SCANNER, an AI system, to detect the marketing of all BMS, quantify and understand women’s exposure and perception to digital marketing of BMS, and provide evidence to strengthen existing regulatory frameworks for the marketing of BMS.
As a Research Fellow, you will:
- Lead and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to collect and analyse data using artificial intelligence systems techniques
- Collaborate and conduct research independently to achieve the objectives of the #DigitalMums study, in accordance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and any relevant University policies relating to the conduct of research.
- Engage in scholarly publications associated with the #DigitalMums, personally and in research teams and prepare findings/results for oral and written communication, producing or contributing to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research.
- Remain up-to-date with current literature and methods relevant to the area of responsibility
- The day-to-day administration of the #DigitalYouth study
- Communicate outputs to discipline(s) and the community and ensure impact of academic activity in the field and the community
To be successful, you’ll have:
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience
- Demonstrate skills in the publication of research journal articles, conference papers and reports.
- Demonstrate skills in the coordination of data collection, data entry and analysis using both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Demonstrate skills to collect and analyse data using artificial intelligent systems techniques
- Experience with statistical software for data science (e.g., Stata, SPSS).
- Policy knowledge and experience on marketing of breastmilk substitutes, in the Australian and international context.
- Detailed knowledge of marketing of breastmilk substitutes in Australia and internationally.
