Payroll Liaison Lead

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and driven Payroll professional to join our National Payroll team based in Melbourne.

The Role

Reporting to the National Payroll Operations Manager, the Payroll Liaison Lead will work closely with relevant stakeholders across the business to drive process improvement, standardisation, and automation across Ramsay Health Care’s payroll operations.

This role is responsible for the documentation of processes and functional specifications and for the testing of system changes, as well as ensuring the compliance of Ramsay's payroll processes with all regulatory and industrial requirements.

Additionally, this position will:

  • Make recommendations for the optimisation of processes and lead process improvement within Payroll
  • Ensure the delivery of Payroll operations in accordance with Regulations (Tax and Other), Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and National Employment Standards
  • Engage with key stakeholders to gather user requirements and advise on impacts to payroll processes and systems
  • Document and map processes, with a strong risk and controls mindset
  • Critically analyse and review activity and financial trends
  • Assess and mitigate risks
  • Make recommendations for changes to ensure appropriate controls are in place to meet audit requirements
  • Document pay rules in conjunction with relevant Awards and Agreements

Skills and Experience


  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills with a strong ability to problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret data and processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of payroll processes
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage risk
  • Ability to define and document processes, including the development of functional specifications
  • Ability to define and document the sources of data in various systems and reports
  • Experience interpreting Industrial Instruments and ability to translate Award/EA terms and conditions into a functional specification
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and a strong affinity for systems
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to liaise with stakeholders across all levels.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise complex tasks in a dynamic environment


  • Experience using Chris 21, Kronos and Rostering
  • Demonstrated sound understanding of regulatory issues surrounding PAYG tax, payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation, salary packaging and FBT
