Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator

(Permanent 76 hours per fortnight)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the Infection Prevention and Control Program to ensure activities are directed toward preventing and decreasing healthcare associated infections and improving patient safety. The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator provides advanced clinical leadership and problem-solving and expert planning and coordination. This role works autonomously within the healthcare team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing and delivering of Infection Control and Prevention specialist nursing care. The coordinator provides clinical practice, education and research and strategic support to achieve high level of quality performance through collaboration with local departments. You will actively participate in leadership meetings to ensure alignment of priorities and strategies. The role has direct supervisory responsibility of nursing staff in the Infection Control and Prevention team and responsible for own activities and for delegation of activities to others.


About You

You will have a strong commitment to customer service, display professional communication and interpersonal skills and also meet the following essential criteria:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrate advanced experience working in Infection Control and Prevention and an active desire to enhance and develop Infection Control and Prevention practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as content expert to VMOs, clinical managers and others to improve patient safety.
  • Demonstrated experience of providing leadership and ensuring surveillance activities and improvement plans are analysed, implemented and reported to leadership.
  • Good knowledge of National Safety and Quality Hospital Standards and how they apply in practice and operationally
  • Provide quality input to policies, procedures, guidelines and activities as required to ensure they remain relevant and current.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of risk management with strong ability to monitor and react to trends. Experience using Riskman is an advantage
  • High level critical thinking and problem solving skills and the ability to successfully work as a team member and independently when required
  • Excellent  computer skills using the MS office suite of programs
  • Demonstrate ability to work as a motivated, enthusiastic and positive role model for all clinical and non-clinical disciplines and services within the hospital environment

Requirements
