About the Role
We are a small, friendly Health Information’s team looking for a coder. As a key member of our team, reporting directly to the Chief Health Information Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accurate Clinical Coding of all inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM ACHI 12th edition classification systems applying Australian and state coding standards.
You will also:
- Deliver precise and timely coding of diagnoses and procedures in accordance with the latest coding standards
- Process confidential data used for billing, morbidity collections, research, statistical analysis, management information system, quality activities and Casemix management, including Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) allocation
- Participate in documentation quality assurance including documentation queries.

You will also bring:
Education:
- Clinical Coding qualifications Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) or equivalent, or Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Sound and updated knowledge of ICD-10-AM 12th edition, National and Victorian coding standards.
- Good analytical and abstracting skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of DRG and Case-mix
- Ability to prioritise tasks and effectively manage time to meet deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to take on continuing study
- Over 1 years of experience in abstracting and coding, although graduates will be considered.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and patient Management Systems.
- Minimum 4 years' experience as a clinical coder.
- Required to assign accurate and timely clinical codes through analysis and use of ICD-10-AM, 12th Edition

- Eligible for membership of HIMAAClinical Coding qualifications from Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) or equivalent
- Sound and updated knowledge of Medical Science and Medical Terminology
- Ability and willingness to take on continuing study
- Knowledge and understanding of DRG, Casemix and private hospital funding models
- Knowledge and understanding of current Privacy legislation
- Ability to liaise with clinicians and hospital staff about coding and documentation requirements.
Desirable:
- Experience coding Maternity, Neonatal, gynecology and plastics
- Previous work experience using 3M Codefinder
- Previous work experience using MEDITECH.
