JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut School of Social Work has an opening for a Financial Assistant 2 to support the Business Office at Innovations Institute. Under general supervision, the Financial Assistant 2 will provide a broad range of financial and budgeting services with a focus on processing financial and administrative transactions, as well as maintaining a complete set of records for the Institute. This position will operate independently and may participate in more complex work with their supervisor. The position will be part of the School of Social Work’s growing portfolio in partnership with local, state, and federal government agencies and organizations on behalf of children, youth, and families. Positions with Innovations Institute are fully remote with expected travel to UConn’s Hartford Campus twice annually at the employee’s expense.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides financial, administrative, and program support for assigned areas.
- Monitors fiscal procedures for duplication, efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with required policies and regulations, making modifications as needed.
- Prepares regular financial statements of condition for each unit or cost center and makes available timely and accurate financial information, including budget projections and analysis.
- Assists in developing and managing department budgets and in maintaining budgetary control over approved budgets.
- Monitors, tracks, and maintains accurate financial records. Prepares reports, as needed.
- Submits, reviews, and approves financial and payroll transactions.
- Assists with grant-proposal development, post-award proposal management, and grant-related issues.
- Updates and distributes budget request packages. Creates and disseminates budget reports.
- Manages invoice processing. Verifies purchase orders and available funds.
- Responds to and resolves a variety of financial questions and issues.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting, and two to three years of experience in financial record keeping, analysis, and reporting; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the degree and years requirement.
- Sound knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal control methods with a proven ability to maintain financial integrity with large data sets.
- Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and other business applications, such as Word or PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in working with enterprise systems, such as Kuali Financial Systems, or equivalent ER; PageUp, HuskyBuy.
- Previous higher education experience at a large university.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
- Basic project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a shared services team.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and available funding. Positions with the Innovations Institute are fully remote and expected to travel to UConn's Hartford Campus twice annually at the employee's expense.
