JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Program Assessment (OAPA) supports University-wide efforts to enhance a culture of assessment focused on advancing student success. This position, as an Academic Assistant 1, is based in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and will report to the Executive Director of the Office of Academic Program Assessment.

UConn is committed to developing a culture of assessment across academic programs, the general education program (known as the Common Curriculum), and other academic success initiatives. The Assistant Director will be crucial to the success of OAPA and assessment of academic success, with a focus on developing and maintaining an infrastructure for assessment for the Common Curriculum; supporting faculty to maintain assessment activities, including gathering, analyzing, and reflecting on data; and supporting assessment of academic-related activities. They must also be confident in supporting and collaborating with faculty in a full range of academic disciplines and engaging with different methods of assessing student learning as appropriate to varied academic fields. The successful candidate will be confident in working independently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual support and training to faculty across academic disciplines and professional development programming about assessment of learning and assessment of the Common Curriculum.
  • Assist and advise faculty and academic programs in the use of a variety of direct and indirect measures to collect data, evaluate information, and prepare analytical reports related to program-level student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain guidance materials and resources about assessment, including those related to learning outcomes, data management, visualization, and assessment of general education for the OAPA website.
  • Assist and advise academic-related units on assessment of academic success-related projects.
  • Coordinate and manage assessment software across the institution.
  • Plan, develop, and provide direct support and training to faculty on the use of assessment software.
  • Manage administrative operations and processes for the Office of Academic Program Assessment.
  • Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree and up to one year of post-degree experience in higher education in the areas of assessment, general education, or educational outcomes.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of research and best practices related to the assessment of student learning in a higher education setting.
  3. Proficiency in statistical analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data.
  4. Proficiency with software related to teaching and learning (learning management systems, assessment software, e.g., Blackboard/Anthology or comparable programs).
  5. Demonstrated commitment to student success, particularly through continuous improvement of educational outcomes.
  6. Effective communication skills, including diplomatic interpersonal communication with constituents.
  7. Experience in planning and conducting group and individual training and/or consultation sessions in a higher education setting.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of data.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Terminal degree.
  2. Experience as a faculty member in higher education.
  3. Demonstrated experience working with faculty concerning the assessment of student learning.
  4. Experience writing learning objectives, mapping program learning objectives to course objectives, and writing rubrics.
  5. Experience working with accredited academic programs.
  6. Experience supporting assessment of general education learning outcomes.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-date position. This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the American Association of University Professors UConn Chapter (AAUP).
