JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Undergraduate Business Career Office (UBCO), the Business Career Coach advises students on a variety of career readiness topics, including, but not limited to, career exploration, personal branding, job-interviewing, and internship/job search strategies. In partnership with other UBCO and Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills staff, the Business Career Coach also develops, plans, and administers career-related programs and activities designed to assist undergraduate School of Business students from diverse backgrounds and identities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the unique needs of diverse populations and a commitment to equitably addressing these needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts one-on-one in-person and virtual career advising sessions with a diverse undergraduate business student population, including domestic, international, and underrepresented groups, focusing on a wide range of career readiness topics.
  • Develops and delivers career readiness presentations and workshops in classroom and virtual settings for undergraduate business students, graduates, and alumni.
  • Maintains an understanding of School of Business majors, industry career paths, and tailored job search communication tools (resumes, LinkedIn profiles, cover letters etc.).
  • Conducts practice job interviews, discusses salary negotiation strategies, and equips business students with effective networking skills.
  • Researches current job market conditions and hiring trends, translating insights into actionable guidance for student career management.
  • Engages in existing and prospective employer partner outreach. Helps coordinate and facilitate employer partner recruiting events. Collaborates with corporate partners to understand hiring efforts and share timely market data with students.
  • Collaborates with the UBCO staff, the School of Business and other University of Connecticut departments as necessary.
  • Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of UBCO programs, workshops, and key events and initiatives.
  • May supervise Career Interns including engaging in their training and development as required, and meeting with them on a weekly basis to discuss work assignments and expectations.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, counseling, or related field and a minimum of three years of experience in higher education coaching, human resources or other related experience OR master’s degree in business, counseling, or related field and a minimum of one to two years of experience in higher career coaching, human resources or other related experience. 
  2. Demonstrated business writing and editing skills, as evidenced by applicant materials including resume and cover letter.
  3. Demonstrated experience providing effective presentations in a variety of settings (one-on-one, small group, large group).
  4. Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in business, counseling, or related field.
  2. Minimum of four years of professional experience in corporate recruitment, professional hiring, human resources, or career coaching in either a corporate or higher education environment.
  3. Proven experience working with international students and other diverse populations.
  4. Demonstrated experience supporting students, clients, or constituents in a selective and high-achieving academic, business, or nonprofit setting.
  5. Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships both within the university and with corporate executives in relation to college recruiting.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The hiring range for this position is $67,666 to $69,666. An offer of employment, if made, will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s skill and experience, as determined by the University.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time 12-month position. The successful candidate must have dependable transportation and the willingness and ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours and travel in-state or out-of-state, as needed, in support of program activities. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
