INTRODUCTION
The UConn Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing, recognized among the top nursing schools in the nation, is entering an exciting new chapter. As we prepare to move into DeLuca Hall, our new state-of-the-art home, we are looking for a creative and talented Publicity/Marketing Coordinator (P3) to help tell the stories of our School and the exceptional people making an impact in nursing.
Working under the limited supervision of the Director of Marketing, the Coordinator will create engaging content that brings UConn Nursing to life—from news and feature stories to social media, marketing campaigns, promotional materials, and digital communications. This position will work across the School to highlight the accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and programs and help share those stories with audiences at UConn and beyond.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan promotional strategies and develop strategic marketing plans for the School in alignment with the University’s centralized marketing model, targeting the School’s major audiences, with input from the Vice President for Communications and the Dean. Responsible for writing copy for press releases, public service announcements, informational listings, and other publicity materials, as well as supervising and assigning writing tasks to student workers.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with unit heads, faculty, and staff; leverage these relationships to identify news stories and interview expert sources. Builds and maintains working relationships with members of public media to promote coverage of School programs. Arrange articles, interviews, and coverage of special events.
- Serve as a consultant to administrators, faculty, and staff on media relations and interactions with the press. Research and respond to media inquiries. Oversee public relations and promotional activities for the School; facilitate special events that include arrangements, logistics, correspondence, and supervision of these events. Plan, organize, implement, and lead ad hoc or special projects in accordance with School-wide goals.
- Provide School’s website maintenance, management, and creation, with input from the Dean. Track and interpret digital analytics data and prepare recommendations to enhance publicity activities based on data gathered.
- Plan cost-effective strategies and promotional campaigns designed to attract students, donors, faculty, and a variety of other audiences appropriate to the campaign or event. Evaluate effectiveness of such efforts and adjust plans accordingly. Manage special projects as the project lead, collaborating with sources both inside and outside the School.
- With the Director of Marketing, will develop and set editorial content strategy to elevate the reputation and community of the School. Write, edit, and produce the School’s annual magazine, Unison. Design, schedule and produce brochures, posters, advertising flyers and newspaper advertisements and other informational and promotional materials; prepare designs for production, including layouts, paste-up, type specs and mechanical, as needed; work with vendors to establish, review, and correct proofs and quotes. Maintain archive of digital and promotional assets and distributes as required.
- Work with the Director of Marketing to ensure the broad diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and academic areas in the School of Nursing are represented in editorial and marketing materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or another related field.
- Two years of related experience.
- Experience utilizing social media tools and marketing strategies.
- Experience with web design, maintenance, and management.
- Demonstrated ability to be resourceful and work under pressure and deadlines while managing conflicting priorities.
- Demonstrated writing ability necessary to produce publicity materials.
- Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of media production.
- Experience in graphic design and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite programs, including InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Experience leading special projects, coordinating and collaborating with internal and external sources.
- Photography and videography experience.
- Experience developing outreach programs designed to promote programs, events, and services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards and university branding guidelines in relation to the use of graphics, logos, and proprietary materials.
- Demonstrated knowledge of news operations, news staff, and their needs.
- Experience creating and updating websites using Aurora WordPress or similar content management software.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience with customer relationship management technology, such as Slate or similar software.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time, end-dated position on the Storrs campus with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The University offers a competitive salary, and outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.
